Cute Decor Ideas For A Killer Halloween Party

Halloween is actually my favorite holiday, not because it’s my birthday (although maybe it does help a little haha), but because I just LOVE all things spooky! Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with the paranormal, black cats, witchcraft, you name it!

So needless to say, we had some pretty epic parties in my childhood. My dad would build a haunted maze in the basement and chase us through it in his grim reaper costume, we would bob for apples, play blindfolded Halloween games, and dance to spooky party tunes through thick layers of fog while trying not to get dizzy from the flickering of the strobe lights. Halloween as a kid was the best!

As much as I love Halloween season, I’ve never actually hosted a Halloween party as an adult, so when we moved into our new home I knew it was time to go all out for my first ever spooktacular adult Halloween party! I loved everything about Halloween as a kid so it was super fun incorporating those ideas for a grown-up version!

Need some cute Halloween party ideas? I’m sharing my Halloween party decor, fun DIY Halloween treats, plus a super easy Halloween cocktail!

Halloween photo backdrop

My friends and I love taking photos, so I wanted to create a fun Halloween-themed backdrop where we could snap some costumed photos together. My original idea was to create one of those epic balloon arches, but it turned out to be way too time-consuming for me to do the day of (not sure why I decided to leave this until the last minute haha) so while I created the Halloween snacks Dan put up some balloons along either side of our hanging Happy Halloween sign. I completed our little photo spot with a life-sized skeleton donned with a witch hat seated on our entryway bench, and a Halloween accent pillow. While this didn’t turn out the way I had intended, it was still a cute spot for photos, and there’s always next time!

Halloween Decor - Entryway Table

Halloween entryway table

Our entryway table was one of my favorite things to decorate for Halloween! These Instagram famous plastic wall decal bats were so easy to style and I love how creative you can be with your placements. I decided to have them start small down below and arch up and over the top of the arched mirror so it looks like they’re coming out from behind. I added some spooky elements like black candlestick holders, witchcraft books, a ceramic pumpkin, urn style vase, and black eucalyptus then draped faux cobwebs around for a haunted house vibe.

I’ve linked the exact products I used below, plus similars for out-of-stock items!

Halloween tablescape

I’ve been wanting to try those “floating” witch hats so I knew they would be perfect to hang above my Halloween food and snack table. I had some extra bats from the set I used for my console table so I used them to fill in some gaps and to add more variety. I love funny letterboard messages so I decided to add this one and make my own Halloween-inspired pun: “Let’s get this party startled” to welcome my guests and seated a cute little skeleton next to it (yes, the pose was necessary haha). For my centerpiece, I placed a skull vase on top of a wood stand and filled it with black eucalyptus, sprinkled some plastic spiders around, and then lined the base of the stand with some fun decorative pumpkins. To finish this off I added a fun spiderweb tablecloth — it really pulls the Halloween tablescape decor together!

Halloween food and treats

I’m all about being extra for an aesthetic so when it came to preparing food for our Halloween party, I wanted to do some fun Halloween-themed snacks. I’m not one to enjoy being in the kitchen for hours so although these Halloween treats are Pinterest-worthy, they’re also super quick and easy to make!

Easy DIY Halloween-themed food and party snacks:

  • Oreo cookie spiders - Take pretzel sticks, break them in half, and stick them into the stuffing part of a double-stuffed oreo.

  • Celery witch fingers - Cut a celery stalk into short 1 inch pieces, spread peanut or your choice of nut butter inside and place stick an almond at the end.

  • Witches hair spaghetti - Black bean spaghetti creates the perfect witch hair look! We added pasta sauce for “blood” and meatballs for eyes.

  • Halloween cheese board - I used these mini Halloween cookie cutters to cut out fun Halloween-themed cheese shapes.

  • Frankenstein guacamole - Empty a few containers of store-bought guacamole into a bowl (or make your own if you prefer). Place a few blue corn tortilla chips along the top for Frankenstein’s hair, place 2 eyeball ping pong balls for his eyes, then add 1 strand of black bean pasta for his mouth (I made a wavy pattern but you can do whatever you wish).

Halloween cocktail / mocktail recipe

For my Halloween party, I wanted to create an easy cocktail that was on theme and fun to drink. I used to love drinking Shirley Temples (the mocktail version of course haha) as a kid so I decided to play on that since grenadine is red like blood (perfect for Halloween). I found some small plastic syringes and thought they would be a fun way to inject the blood-colored grenadine into the clear drink mixture of sprite and vodka. It’s a super simple recipe and it’s quick and easy to make, plus it gives everyone a way to add the amount of grenadine they want.

5oz Bloody Shirley Halloween cocktail recipe:

  • 1 ounce of vodka (skip this for a mocktail version)

  • 4 ounces of sprite

  • A light splash of grenadine syrup (for color)

Serve them in some cute cocktail glasses (I used these 5oz plastic cocktail glasses) and garnish with a grenadine-filled syringe.
